Iran has banned weightlifter Mostafa Rajaei from sports for life after he shook the hand of Israeli weightlifter Maksim Svirsky on Saturday. The two finished in second and third place respectively while competing in the 2023 World Master Weightlifting Championships in Poland. Iran does not recognise Israel as a country and forbids its athletes from interacting with their Israeli counterparts, which has led to multiple instances of Iranian athletes being disqualified or dropping out of tournament
